Farris, Fresh, and Werring Law Office, LLC (FFW) was founded by J. David Farris, John W. Fresh, and Andrew E. Werring in order to provide client-oriented service. Combined, the attorneys at FFW have over 100 years of legal experience spanning 7 decades. We have stayed up to date with the changes in the law over the years and our practice continues to evolve with the evolution of the legal world. Over the years we have developed a network of contacts across Kansas and Missouri to help facilitate the best representation for our clients.

J. David Farris

J. David Farris ("Dave") retired from the practice of law in the Fall of 2019 after over 50 years of practice in the State of Kansas, the vast majority of which occurred in Atchison. There he, along with his wife Claire (d. 2003), raised three children who have provided him with nine grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren skiing and playing golf. He most recently celebrated his retirement by being elected to serve on the City Commission of the City of Atchison.

Dave was admitted to practice law in Kansas in 1965 and in Missouri in 1987. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. District Courts in both the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri; and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. Dave is a graduate of Kansas State University (B.S.) and Washburn University School of Law (J.D.). He served as the Assistant County Attorney, Atchison County, Kansas, 1969-70; the County Attorney, from 1970-1974. He served as the City Attorney, Atchison, Kansas, from 1990-2015.He is a Member of the Atchison Bar Association; the Kansas Bar Association (President 1973-74; 1990-91); The Missouri Bar; Kansas Association for Justice (Board of Governors). He is a retired Colonel with the U.S. Army Reserve.

John Fresh

Born in the steel and mining country of western Pennsylvania John has never lost sight of the value of hard work and perseverance. Later moving to southern Colorado where he attended The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs graduating with a degree in communications in 1987 he was the first of his generation in his family to attend college. He went on to attend Washburn University School of Law on a merit scholarship. He returned to Colorado after graduation from law school in 1992 where he practiced for three years in a firm noted throughout the state for representation of serious criminal charges and plaintiffs work. There he had the opportunity to learn from one of Colorado's most storied and notorious trial lawyers. Moving back to Kansas in 1995 he has continued to spend the majority of his time in the courtroom. He has tried approximately three dozen civil jury trials to verdict including numerous defense verdicts when working for the defendant as well as obtaining the largest plaintiffs personal injury verdict in Atchison County history where he recovered a jury award in excess of $850,000.

He is also counsel of record in over 20 cases in the Appellate Courts of Kansas and Colorado; has 10 published decisions, including 4 Kansas Supreme Court decisions, establishing new law in the state in such diverse areas as occupational diseases, Grandparent Visitation Rights, as well as the application of Social Security disability benefits to child support obligations. Three of these Kansas Supreme Court cases are among the first in the nation in the various areas that they covered and continue to be cited in other jurisdictions as well as throughout the State of Kansas.

Licensed in the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado; he actively litigates matters in Kansas and Missouri in the areas of plaintiffs personal injury cases, insurance defense, estate and trust litigation, and domestic relations matters.

John maintains a fairly broad-based practice related to transactional work in estate planning, probate matters, real estate matters, business formations and acquisitions including transitioning businesses from one generation to the next.

A long history of being active in the community, John has served on numerous nonprofit boards of local entities, frequently serving on the executive committees or as chairperson including the Atchison Family YMCA, the All Faith Counseling Center, the Domestic Violence Emergency Services (D.O.V.E.S.) board, the Atchison Rotary Foundation board, and the City of Atchison Budget and Audit Committee.

John and his wife Sandy wife Live in Atchison with their Boston terriers where they enjoy traveling together, John enjoys spending time exercising, and his wife continues her hobby of genealogy.

John is licensed to practice law in the States of Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado along with being admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts in the District of Colorado, the District of Kansas, and the Western District of Missouri. He is a member of the Atchison Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Missouri bar.

Andrew Werring

Andrew Werring

Andrew E. Werring focuses his practice primarily in the areas of Creditors Rights, Criminal Defense, Business Organization, and Estate Planning and Administration.

Andrew is a lifelong resident of Atchison with his maternal family having emigrated from Ireland in the mid-19th century and settling in Atchison and Brown Counties. His home was built in approximately 1880 by his Great-Great-Grandparents. Being a lawyer is in his genes as his great uncle and great-great-uncle were attorneys in Atchison and his father was also an attorney in Atchison having served as the County Attorney for Atchison County. His father, Tom Werring, was formerly partners with J. David Farris prior to his return to the New York area in the mid-1980's.

Andrew attended and graduated from Maur Hill Prep School (now Maur Hill-Mount Academy) and Benedictine College. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2005. He returned to Atchison and began practicing in the Atchison County Attorney's Office where he gained invaluable experience prosecuting a wide variety of cases.

In 2007 he left to form his own private practice with a focus then on Criminal Defense and Family Law. His practice quickly grew to include creditor rights/collections, estate planning, and business organization/consultation.

Andrew firmly established himself as a creditors-rights attorney in his solo practice. When he formed the partnership with Dave and John he created Atchison Account Management, LLC to manage the existing collection practice he developed. There, his team enjoys unparalleled success in the region and a reputation of being the company to hire when you want your monies recovered.

Andrew and his wife Leslie enjoy spending their time with their daughters and volunteering for their local schools. They currently hold positions on the Atchison Community Health Clinic (ACHC) board and the St. Benedicts Catholic School Endowment Fund board. Andrew also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America. They were both instrumental in the formation of the ACHC with Andrew serving as an original board member and Leslie serving as one of its first Directors. In the past, Andrew served on the City Commission for the City of Atchison holding the position of Vice-Mayor and Mayor as well as having served on the Atchison Community Educational Foundation having served as the Board President for many years. Philanthropy and giving back to the community are an ingrained part of who Andrew is and what his family does.
